Being halfway through 2024, now feels like a good time to clean up the rankings a bit. There are groups that haven't been featured on AEW main programming in a while and it just doesn't make sense to me to include them in the rankings anymore. In order to rejoin the rankings, it's going to take more than a guest appearance. We're going to need a substantial program or chasing an AEW title to be back on the main list. It's doubtful that this happens for some of these teams

As of this article I'm tracking 17 groups (not including ROH). Looking over the list I wondered if maybe this is too many. One criticism of AEW is having a large roster and not enough TV time. The upside is that being a part of a group may increase visibility for talent that may not get featured otherwise. Killswitch hasn't had a match in months, but he does get to hang around with the Patriarchy and look menacing. Good work if one can find it. So bring on more factions

Dynasty proved that the biggest factor in a faction's overall ranking is the ability to win championships. This attainment score can soften a weak win % (strength), it can also alleviate poor cohesion amongst members. Dissolved Groups QTV: I was going to put this group last in the rankings, but with QT Marshall leaving by the end of the year and not even a smidge of recent TV time I'm putting this group down. Unless Johnny TV wants to take over the group and bring back Worldwide Underground (who else remembers?). On Hold Snake Army: Anything going on with Jake Roberts group? As soon as they formed Lance Archer went off on a tour of Japan and the Righteous haven't been featured on AEW TV.

For the majority of the year figuring out the rankings was a fairly simple formula. Titles (attainment) took the most importance, followed by a faction's win/loss record (strength). Any tie breakers or fine tuning came down to cohesion and purpose scores. That formula hasn't been working as well these past few weeks as certain factions with titles have poor strength scores (QTV) or factions with a good strength have a poor purpose score (Dark Order). It's a shame that Dark and Elevation are no more as both shows were valuable in building stats for workers and their factions. Replacing them will be the AEW House Rules shows that I'm trying to follow for win/loss records. I haven't been tracking the dark matches that have been taking place before Dynamite tapings.
