In our entry last month we had 18 factions in the rankings. Since then I've removed several groups due mostly to lack of TV time. Sometime it came down to a single member not being featured enough. Factions need at least three members to qualify and with the sheer number of groups in AEW some cuts have to be made.
Out of Contention:
Shane Taylor Productions- Agogo was at All In and I don't remember him doing anything. I'm sure he punched someone. They may have recruited the Beast Mortos to the group but we'll wait and see if it's more than a one off thing. Despite a poor win percentage, Lee Moriarty's ROH Pure Title alone would have gotten the group into the upper half of the list.
Joe-Gun Warriors- While it was a fun idea at the time, a tough as nails group featuring Shibata, Samoa Joe, and Hook, it feels like it was temporary and I doubt they'll return to it when Joe comes back.
Outcasts- AEW fans have turned on Saraya and it's not like she had a whole lot of fan support to begin with. Cameron would probably be better off with another group or on her own entirely as she's the MVP at the moment, despite never winning.
Groups to Watch
Blackpool Combat Club/Moxley's Romper Stomper Gang- At All Out Jon Moxley stood in the ring with his fellow BCC members and figuratively threw a live grenade in the room. As of now there's too much smoke and shrapnel to figure out who's in and who's out. Danielson is clearly out but what of Yuta? He was distraught over the turn but he's still a trios champ with Claudio and PAC. What about PAC? He didn't join in on the attack but he was holding Yuta back. Things will be made clear by next month but for now there's just too much volatility.
The Rankings
#16 Iron Savages (Up 2 spots)- Moving up in the rankings due to other teams being removed entirely.
Strength: 0%
#15 Outrunners (NEW)- The youngest men alive got their first win in AEW recently.
Strength: 6.4%
#14 Premier Athletes (Up 2 spots)- I like Mark Sterling's group of ab crunch enthusiasts. Wouldn't be surprised if another group poached Josh Woods though (he'd be great alongside Moxley).
Strength: 8.0%
#13 Dark Order (Returning)- They're back! After several months away they actually got some AEW TV time on Collision and a match on Zero Hour.
Strength: 13.6%
#12 Triple J (Up 5 spots)- Satnam Singh has been doing dark matches lately, but i don't track those for the win percentage. Jarrett's been a fine addition to the Zero Hour pre-shows. That doesn't help their group's raking either.
Strength: 20.0%
#11 Top Flight (Up 3 spots)- Sometimes it's hard to figure out if someone is an official member or not. Lio Rush has the Top Flight uniform which makes it very clear so I'm including him in the group.
Strength: 28.4%
#10 Cage of Agony (Up 3 spots)- Unless they figure into a big match or angle I'm about to drop them from the list.
Strength: 38.2%
#9 Learning Tree (Up 1 spot)- Losing the FTW Championship really hurts the group's overall ranking as they are sub .500 in the win department.
Strength: 48.1%
#8 Undisputed Kingdom (Down 1 spot)- While Strong, Taven, and Bennett are making regular TV appearances the group as a whole lacks direction. Injuries to Wardlow and Cole really put a wrench into the group's potential storyline. What once seemed like an unstoppable super-group, now feels like an entertaining trios act.
Strength: 48.6%
#7 Callis Family (Up 4 spots)- Based on social media posts, it feels like Powerhouse Hobbs if very close to making his return. If Mark Davis also returns sooner than later the Callis Family could make big gains in the last few months of the year. Takeshita is clearly on a path for a future program with Okada.
Strength: 56.0%
#6 Patriarchy (Down 4 spots)- Cohesion is strong as the Luchasaurus/Killswitch turn at All In was a fake out to get Christian the Casino Contract. Such is the power of family I guess. The Casino Contract doesn't provide any bonus points. It's nice to have though.
Strength: 53.6%
#5 Acclaimed (Up 2 spots)- Billy Gunn hasn't had a match since May, if he doesn't have one by WrestleDream, the Acclaimed are out of the faction rankings.
Strength: 61.9%
#4 House of Black (Up 1 spot)- Momentum feels like it's picking up again for HoB. Julia Hart should be back soon, Matthews renewed his contract with AEW, things are looking up. Just add some championship gold and they're in the top three.
Strength: 66.6% (How appropriate!)
#3 Bang Bang Gang (Up 1 spot)- I'm so happy for the Gunn Club, two years ago most fans saw them as nepo-babies only with AEW based on their father's influence. Yet they've put the work in and developed into both a solid tag team and a great part of the Bang Bang Gang.
Strength: 71.4%
#2 Conglomeration (Up 7 spots)- While Willow Nightingale is often present in backstage promos with the Conglomeration, I haven't included her in the stats. This may be an oversight on my part, but she's been so focused on her feud against Statlander that she's felt disconnected from the other conglomerates.
Strength: 62.7%
Championships: ROH World (Mark Briscoe)
#1 The Elite (No Change)- While I have a good idea of who beats Okada at the Continental Classic (Takeshita) the other champions are harder to pin down when their reigns may end. I keep waiting for MCMG to show up but that hasn't happened. We very well might have to wait until next February and a healthy Aussie Open to win the tag belts in Brisbane. The TNT belt is even harder to predict.
Strength: 70.0%
Championships: Continental (Okada), TNT (Jack Perry), AEW Tag (Young Bucks)
It's getting crowded on the chart as we have tracked twenty-three factions so far this year. Blackpool Combat Club exploded so their line ended. If they come back as BCC or something new remains to be seen. Dark Order has a large gap in their history but are back on the board. Most groups are trending down but Top Flight and Team Jarrett are actually trending up. Iron Savages provide a jacked bottom line at 0%.
