The japanese wrestling scene carries us through the rest of this year and into the next with loads of big shows from almost all japanese companies. Truly a wonderful time for wrestling fans.
Recommendation of the Week: Syuri vs Giulia
Oh boy, I'm excited for this one! The PWI #1 Syuri has dominated Stardom throughout this last year after winning the World of Stardom Championship last year at this event against Utami Hayashishita. Now Syuri and Giulia, former Donna del Mondo stablemates, face off for the second time this year.
It is practically set in stone that Giulia wins this one, it already felt like a miracle when she didn't do so in march, but now after winning the 5 Star Grand Prix, she has to win this time.
WWE
In an effort to make the Jan 30th episode of Smackdown special, John Cena is back to team with Kevin Owens against Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns. Otherwise, as usual in the holidays, nothing much is going on in the big league.
AEW
On Dynamite, we will see the penultimate match in the Best of 7 Series between Death Triangle and the Elite. I think, judging by the fact that Omega will face, my Wrestler of the Year, Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom, an appearance by Ospreay is very likely.
The King of Television, Samoa Joe will defend his TNT Title against Wardlow who has not bee pinned yet by Joe. The BCC is in action with Bryan Danielson facing Ethan Page, and the team of Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley battling Top Flight after they won the battle royal on Rampage.
Stardom
The Dream Queendom card offers much more than just Syuri vs Giulia. For the second really big singles match for KAIRI in Stardom, she has Utami Hayshishita across the ring from her in an absolute banger. The Tag league winners Yuu and Nanae Takahashi face the wonderful Cosmic Angels members Tam Nakano and Natsupoi.
NOAH
The main event of the huge NOAH show "The New Year" controversially isn't the GHC World title match between Kenoh and Kaito Kiyomiya, that will be absolutely phenomenal. Instead it's the next match on the road to retirement for the Great Muta against WWE contracted Shinsuke Nakamura. The former NOAH wrestler KENTA makes a return to the promotion with Naomichi Marufuji in his corner against Satoshi Kojima and Takashi Sugiura.
DDT
The D-Oh Grand Prix winner Yuki Ueno challenges the new Ace of DDT Kazusada Higuchi for the KO-D Openweight Championship. Judging by past title matches, this is another one you NEED to watch.
AAA
El Hijo del Vikingo vs Bandido. Flippy shit is sometimes amazing. This will be flippy shit and this will be amazing. FTR finally defend their AAA tag titles against Dralistico and Dragon Lee with Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo defending the Mixed Tag Team Titles.
ZERO1
Masa Kitamiya and Masato Tanaka will face off on New Years Day. Like with every promotion this week, this is also one match that will bang.
GLEAT
One promotion that constantly surprises me with lovely matches is GLEAT. This time you should definitely seek out the bout between El Lindaman and Kaito Ishida, although the whole card is worth watching.
Indies
GCW
GCW have 2 shows this week. "Til Infinity" on New Years Eve and "56 Nights" on New Years Day.
The marquee match of those two shows for me is definitely Mike Bailey vs 2 Cold Scorpio. A possible Wrestler of the Year against a Legend of the Past that still goes strong.
Prestige
The American Wolves will once again face the Motor City Machine Guns. Once again this match is a must watch!
IWTV
To top it off, IWTV hold their "Class of 22" event which has a tag tournament on it but also the gigantic 8 man gauntlet match for the IWTV Independent World Championship. Notable people include AC Mack, Trish Adora and of course Alex Shelley.
Overview
As you can see, it's an absolute stacked week of wrestling ahead, with much more to come the week after. I'm very excited for this week and let me know on Twitter how you feel about it!
Enjoy!
