AEW Star Power Rankings #2 - Post Dynamite 22nd July 2020.

A slight twist to Power Rankings and this site's stats based content, a ranking of AEW wrestler's fluctuating star power, presence and aura week to week. Italics below indicate blurb is unchanged from previous week's.

1. Jon Moxley (1)

Jon Moxley cemented his star power in AEW and the wrestling world when his headline match against Brian Cage marked AEW's return to 'winning ways' in the Wednesday Night Popularity Contest! The manner in which he put away Brian Cage harked back to his G1 performance against Shingo Takagi in 2019.

Solidifying position.

2. Cody Rhodes (2)

The continuation of the TNT Championship Open Challenge is one of the most interesting stories in wrestling and it grows almost every week. A fascinating matchup with Eddie Kingston in the week just past really highlighted how this concept not only spotlight's AEW talent; Sonny Kiss, Marq Quen, Jungle Boy, but also can be used to give opportunity and exposure to talent in the wider world of pro wrestling.

Solidifying position.

3. Chris Jericho (3)

The 'Demo-God' turns all things current into a hook for his character. The ever adapting Chris Jericho is doing career defining work in the twilight of that very career. His positioning is driven by charisma and intelligence despite his advancing years.

Under-pressure from Omega and Page.

4. Kenny Omega (4)

Confusingly Kenny Omega's talent has become a decisive subject to discuss. However that lightening rod status only bolsters his aura. A history of historic and critically acclaimed matches, Omega's time at the pinnacle of the company must be just on the horizon.

5. Adam Page (5)

Another man really damaged by the lack of crowd, Adam Page had the hottest going before the global pandemic hit however this is very much alive in the memory of AEW fans. A sure-fire AEW Champion currently holding tag gold, he holds a lot of value. Adam Page returned to singles action, surprisingly, for the first time this year. Unsurprisingly however, the reminded use how big a star he could be with charisma, hard-hitting offence and intriguing story-centric performing.

6. The Young Bucks (6)

Not currently in the most spotlight but they have very loyal fans and are reliable and noteworthy on an almost weekly basis. They are primed to have high profile matches with FTR and have an eventual and momentous title reign. In stasis for now as the FTR/Mega Cowboys storyline plays out, however their chaotic banger against The Butcher and The Blade advanced their usefulness to AEW as a weekly television product.

In stasis, under-pressure from Shida.

7. Hikaru Shida (7)

What a difference a week makes! Now whilst a tournament doesn't cure all ills, the 'Dangerous Draw' does add intrigue and direction to a struggling division. Where presentation issues still exist; use of Shida at ringside, picture in picture interviews during matches and limited TV time, the division needs depth and hopefully the tag titles will enable AEW to push themselves into expanding the division and spotlighting Women's Wrestling more prominently.

8. MJF (9)

After Brian Cage is properly in the champ's rearview mirror, a new challenger will be required. Currently atop the Men's Singles Division, MJF is in one of the strongest positions of all in the company. A sociopathic destruction of Griff Garrison on Dynamite, simply underlined this.

9. FTR (8)

Could have been higher if not for slightly under-delivering alongside the Lucha Bros last night. However, they come to AEW as an act jumping ship which creates an aura which adds to the prestige they built in NXT. Add all that to AEW's focus on high quality tag team wrestling, they are in a superb position.

Trending Upwards. Just not as quickly as MJF.

10. Darby Allin (11)

On Dark Darby Allin returned to the ring with a grisly and dominating character-performance, coupled with his relentless pursuit of Brian Cage on the last two episodes of Dynamite, Darby Allin is making an impact once again.
